WinBackup 2.0

backup program well designed with the home computer
in mind. It is starting to show its age. In the office
or corporate environment the lack of an email notification
makes Winbackup difficult to control and not appealing
from an administrator's standpoint. But at home it has
its highlights such as an excellent scheduler with great
flexibility. A nice Windows XP style log clearly pointing
to problems. I can't understand why not everybody can
do that. Another plus point is the direct support of
DVD burners. So if you use it yourself at home and don't
care much about the shortcomings, take a look at it.
We hope the company will invest again
in technology instead of marketing and bring Winbackup
up to standard in its class. Lacking an FTP backup option
and no Email notification puts this program no longer
in first place. Also a before and after backup run option
is needed to stop programs and services such as MSDE
or any other service that locks files you like to backup.
The program seems still actively supported.

What our tester has to say...
I was able to run a scheduled backup
even without being logged onto the computer and noticed
that I could encrypt files too. In case I forgot my
password on the encrypted files, this program comes
with a Rescue password feature. When it comes to locked
files the program is unable to copy the files; however,
it does produce an error message in the log that allows
the user to know that the files were not able to be
backed up.
Unfortunately, you cannot e-mail the log
to yourself and this program does not support FTP.
The buying process is worth mentioning.
You feel exposed to a horde of telemarketers to buy
additional products and special specials! If you're
not carefull you may spend more than your planned on.
