Secura Backup

Secura Backup Professional is a powerful professional backup software that specializes in 128 bit secure backups to local drives, network paths, FTP sites, CD/DVDs, and even E-Mail addresses. Using Blowfish encryption with a 128 bit key Secura Backup achieves the same level of security that banks use for their online services and is even suitable for military operations. Secura Backup offers scheduling features that are completely customizable and allow full automation of backups. The Shadow Copy feature will backup files that are in use or locked by other programs including Outlook PST files, Exchange files and database files like MySQL/MSSQL.

What our tester has to say...

Secura Backup Pro is quite capable of handling almost any backup job. I found I could backup to DVD/CD, FTP server, Networks, and E-mail. I was able to e-mail myself a backup archive of my files. All I had to do was tell the program who the backup was from and where it was going. I could log onto my e-mail from any computer, download the archive and install it right there.

CD/DVD burning was no problem for me as I just told the program where to save to and it activated its own drivers. I set a blank DVD into the drive and set to work. The program compressed my files and burned them onto the disk in no time at all. I did have the options available to me to set lower burn speeds should the need arise. Also, when backup jobs are too big to be put onto a single disc, Secura will span multiple disc media to complete the job.

The program does produce error reports but does not provide much information. Secura informed me of errors in my backups but it did not tell me where the errors were or what they were. The program also told me that it had an issue with backing up to my FTP server, but it would not tell me enough information to discern what the problem was. I had to contact Tech support to see if they could help me fix the problem with the FTP backup.

Tech support was very nice and helpful. I had a problem with the service not functioning properly and stopping the rest of the program from running and with a simple e-mail we got the problem fixed. Both the program and the service functioned fine after that and Support said they were even going to check and see why the problem after I brought it up.

The programs log file is a simple black and white plain text document that can be set to be automatically saved after each backup. It has no highlights and no markers in it to point out errors, nothing really to draw anyone's attention. Even if I was seriously looking through all of that text I could very easily miss any errors present. Not to mention, who would want to take their time and go digging through all of that text?

The service feature of the program works fine. All I needed to do was set the scheduler and close the program. When the time came, logged in or logged out the backup was made. Setting up the service this way made my life very easy. This way I don't have to remember where to go to edit the service or the scheduler. I just go to one place and change both at once.

Security is another standard feature of Secura's. I found I could easily encrypt my backup job with either a case sensitive Pass Phrase or a security key. These options are rather nice seeing as I have yet to see another program with a Phrase for protection.
