What our tester has to say...

I was quite glad to see that Backup4all was just as easy to use as it is advertised. I followed the wizard through to the end and found that the programmers keep everything in a nicely organized fashion. The program is designed to hide various functions when a certain configuration does not permit the use of them. When I made a full backup, I had full backup options, and when I made a differential backup, I had differential options.

I was able to password protect Full, Differential and Incremental backups. A mirror backup could not be password protected but had all the functions to keep my folder structure and file settings intact. I was not able to encrypt my backups, as that is not a feature of the program.

I did set the program to show me the log after every backup, an option that can be toggled on or off. The log is plain text black and white without any symbols to draw attention to errors. I was able to spot an error in the log of a short backup job, but I wouldn't want to waste the time looking through a list of anymore than 20 files. The main screen of the program does display a warning icon attached to the icon for a backup task if there was a problem with the last backup.

I did get a notice while my backup was running that Backup4all could not backup a specific file because it was in use by another application. This is another option that can be toggled on or off. When the notice appeared, I had the option to "Retry," "Ignore," "Ignore All," or "Cancel." The program waited for me to make the decision before continuing. This is very useful when I'm manually running the backup, but when the backup is running via schedule, the notice is set as by the programmers not to function. I assume they did this because they know that most people are not paying attention to scheduled backups.

I was able to backup to variable media such as CD/DVD, Flash, Zip and Network drives. I did notice the program cannot back up to FTP. However, the program's ability to burn to CD/DVD using its own drivers is some compensation.

What the vendor has to say...

Backup4all is an award-winning backup software for Windows. It was designed to protect your valuable data from partial or total loss by automating tasks, password protecting and compressing it to save storage space. The application is feature rich and offers an intuitive interface making all features easily accessible for both beginners and professionals.

Easy-to-use wizards
Backup4all was designed to be an easy-to-use software. It comes with separate wizards for backing up and restoring. All you have to do is follow the wizard's steps and the instructions on screen.

Intuitive, Explorer Style Interface
With the help of the file tree, you can see all files that are backed up and the new files that will be stored at the next execution. You can sort and search this file tree. You can start the application at windows startup or minimize it to the system tray.

Easy File and Folder Selection
You can browse a folder tree to select individual files and folders to be backed up, or you can include or exclude them individually.

Statistics
You can actually see how many files are backed up, the total space allocated for the current backup in the destination, how many files will be added at the next execution, what is the available free space on destination and much more.

Version Tracking
Backup4all is a backup software that offers a unique mode to track file versions. You can selectively restore any previous state of the file directly from the main window.

Built-in CD/DVD Burner
You do not need a separate software to burn your backups to CD/DVD because Backup4all comes with its own built-in CD/DVD burning support. Just set the destination to a CD/DVD writer device and start the backing up process. However, if you prefer, you can still use UDF format to burn your CDs/DVDs.

Standard Zip Compression
Backup4all creates standard zip files. This means that your data is not at the mercy of the utility itself; you can access it with any Zip compatible utility.

Highly Configurable
Plenty of backup types to choose from in this backup software: full backup, differential backup, incremental backup and mirror backup. Built-in scheduler, extra actions/programs to perform before and/or after execution, command line support and more.
