Backup is a great program designed for an automatic
backup of your critical data to local disk, Network
neighborhood and remote FTP servers.
As such it is clearly targeted at the
workstation and office market. Considering that the
program is usually installed by an administrator in
a company setting and the very affordable site license,
you want to try this program. For home use it loses
ground since it has no CD-R and DVD-R/RW burner option
and no shortcuts.
Auto Backup cannot do much when it comes
to locked files and if you want a backup you must exclude
locked files or it will sit there indefinitely. Again
an administrator should have no problem dealing with
that. Since Auto Backup can be run as a service the
locked file issue can be minimized. Auto Backup also
can run tasks before and after the backup
You can create multitasks to backup your
data.You can use Auto Backup to make a reserve copy
of any valuable data on your system manually or automatically.
Restoring is very easy, you can select files to restore
to original or new location. Auto backup Integrated
compression and password.

lost my first review of Auto Backup and I'm glad I did.
I was knee deep in home backups and did not rate Auto
Backup very highly. I did not change my mind. I still
don't recommend it as a home backup. BUT it shines in
an office and corporate environment. If you have 20+
users, are an administrator and can't for whatever reason
have all the user data on your servers you owe it to
yourself to try this backup program..
Auto Backup does a lot and if there is
something is does not do you should be able to find
a workaround solution. As an example, it is not able
to backup locked files. So don't have any! Autobackup
can be a service and can execute tasks before and after
it runs. That allows you to log-off any user and stop
a MSDE / SQL server, backup and start the SQL server
again.
Auto Backup demonstrates why you need
to do your research before you buy a backup program
to "Set it and forget it". If you get the
wrong one it could be a costly mistake. Auto Backup
earns a big thumbs up in the office and a thumbs down
at home. You find the pricing along these lines too.
The cost of around $30.00 for a single license is pretty
well a middle of the road price. The $183.95 for a SITE
license is a great bargain well worth a bit of extra
effort in setting the program up. I hope the programmer
will spend some time on the locked file issue and improve
it in the next version.
