 Syncback
is not a typical file backup. Never the less it can
be used for that too. Syncback offers
an array of synchronization options not found in typical
file backup program. It does an excellent job keeping
the data on two different systems synchronized. The
typical application for it may be to keep the data on
your laptop and your desktop the same. Another use would
be to backup up your local data to the server. There
are many uses for this excellent sync program. SyncBack
SE is very well done. We use SyncBack
SE to synchronize data across networks
and to FTP servers. Every time I use it I find more
great features. I recommend it to any admin or advanced
user but not to a novice or even average user.

was impressed with SyncBack. While it's a different
program I got used to it in a short amount of time.
There was a moment of sweating a bit when it copied
my Outlook files to the D: drive and mentioned something
about deleting. Overwriting may be a better choice of
words. Of course it was not deleting the souce at any
time just the old backup file. It did synchronize my
outlook file from C: to D: without any problem while
my outlook was open. SyncBack SE uses the shadow copy
option to handle locked files. That's something rare
and really unheard of in the less than $50.00 category.
So admins listen up.This program could be part of your
backup scenario. SyncBack uses the Microsoft scheduler.
The job setup is well guided and the program fills in
most of the blanks for you. SyncBack has layers of options.
If you need a particular one, it's just a matter of
looking and finding.
I depend on SyncbackSE more and more.
I replaced a Handybackup installation yesterday. Handy
backup was on the system for 2 years but it took forever
to zip 28,000 files and FTP them to the storage server
in Houston. I absolutely hate appending backups. It's
a nightmare when you have to do a reastore. I downloaded
and installed Syncback in about 5 minutes and created
6 backup / sync jobs. That took another 10 minutes.
The program runs for 30 days in a trail mode. plenty
of time for you to see it's potential and value. Once
the original backup (sync) was done it now takes only
3 minutes to update the backup copy. While it takes
no more time then an "Append" it gives me
a complete backup. I think I got a good system going.
I run Syncback every weekday at lunch and Drive
Backup on Sunday. I can have a totally crashed machine
back to production state in about 1 hour. Can you do
that?
You can get going with SyncBack fast but
exploring the many features and details will take some
time. SyncBack SE is a bargain for the advanced user.
The programers spent considerable time to crreate wizards
to make it easier to use for a novice. Specially if
they are willing to read the instructions. If you have
trouble finding the on switch and only talk about getting
one of these "XYZ for Dummy's" books you should
look elsewhere. The price of $30.00 is a bargain and
the licenses are even cheaper by the dozens. SyncbackSE
is my choice for complex data backups across the LAN
and the Internet.
